‘There are all kinds of courage,’ said Dumbledore, smiling. ‘It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom.’
      — I just realized today how much more meaningful this quote is when you remember Dumbledore’s backstory. For years, Albus remained at Gellert Grindelwald’s side even as Grindelwald became more and more corrupt, simply because he was his friend. He turned a blind eye to the immorality of Gellert’s plans. He couldn’t bring himself to stand up to Grindelwald because he didn’t want to jeopardize their friendship. Even as an adult, he didn’t confront Grindelwald until it was nearly too late. Those ten points weren’t awarded to Neville just so Gryffindor would win the house cup. They were awarded because Dumbledore recognized that Neville, at the age of 11, was far braver than the young Albus had ever been. (via cobbledstories)

some headcanon stuff about dementors

silverandcrimson:

i always thought that dementors didn’t really make 100% sense

because they feed on your happiness but you’re more susceptible to them if you’ve had a lot of hardship+they make you relive your worst memories?

and then happiness is what powers the patronus and drives them away (but don’t they feed on happiness??? ?)

that just doesn’t make sense to me

what i always thought would be way cooler and much more villainous is if when dementors fed off your happiness, they made you relive your happiest memories (so then there was a sort of mirror of erised effect where you get drawn into it)

but then

those memories were soured because the dementors would suck all of the happiness out of them so that you could no longer find joy in the thing that made you happy

u feel me

I never thought of it that way before, but yeah, that makes a lot more sense!

Something I’ve never noticed before:

Snape not only deflects McGonagall’s attack but uses it to take down Alecto and Amycus in a single armwave behind his visual field. Like they both had their wands out too but BOY they did not see that coming. Snape knew that he needed to get rid of them before being driven out of the castle so that they wouldn’t harm any of the students GOD what a badass motherfucker

so this new gen Hogwarts thing has been eating away at my mind and i did a thing

she’s a ravenclaw and she’s into historical revisionism and writes lengthy and intelligent articles for the zine. she’s also into mixing ‘alternative potions’, and plays as a chaser for the ravenclaw quidditch team.

she hates how history of magic is taught at Hogwarts though, its all books written by crusty old white pureblood dudes (“there isn’t a single non-human author in the syllabus, don’t tell me that doesn’t say something.”).

The Trio, and the scars they got along the way.

~

Man, every time I finish the books I go through a period of mourning, and this time I am self medicating with fanart.

I borrowed Hermione’s scar from the movies, I actually found that part powerful, in a awful way.
